Over 1,000 amateur martial artists from 52 countries have already registered to compete in the ISKA Amateur World Championships being staged in the city of Olomouc, Czech Republic from 19 to 24 August 2008.

Poster for 2008 ISKA Kickboxing World Championships

Event report

I.S.K.A. WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008 – OLOMOUC CZECH REP

This was to be the first closed ISKA World Championships.  In order toattend the tournament you had to qualify as part of your National Team. After 6 squad training and team building sessions, Team England were primed and readyto take on the rest of the world.I myself was very pleased to have competitors in every discipline available from Forms, Kata, Semi, Light, ull-Contact and Thai Boxing.  This is something we didn’t have in previous championships.  I felt really confident that we had a really strong team with many potential medal winners. The venue was the Sporthalle Haly in the City of Olomouc in the Czech Republic.Olomouc was a very pleasant City with a good infrastructure and had a beautiful square at its heart with romantic buildings and monuments lined with cafes and restaurants. Our 230 strong team of competitors, officials and spectators arrived in four groups. Group north, group south and 2 midland groups.  After presentations and weigh-ins everyone retired to their hotels, which were a vast improvement on those in Hungary last year.

The next morning the tournament began at 10.00 a.m. prompt kicking off with all the Kids and Junior fighting divisions. The morning start was hectic to say the least, it was a good job that we so many National and Assistant Coaches available to us as we had kids kicking off on every area and ring available. Luckily our Coaches had put a system in place which allowed things to run smoothly and things soon settled down. Our girls did us proud in the Semi-Contact divisions with Georgia Rust, Charlie Maddocks, Kirsty Holmes and Tara Billingham all taking Gold for Team England to become World Champions.

The lads responded to this with a string of great results for Tom Evans, Elijah Everill, Ryan Marlow, Jake Hurst, Tom Gould and Chris Nolan all taking Gold in Semi-Contact.In the Light-Contact there was a Gold medal for Chantelle Scott to add to her Bronze in the Semi-Contact.The pick of the girls was Team England’s Hannah Richardson who had hard fights all the way through but she just got stronger as she went on – winning Gold in style. The lads faired somewhat better than the girls with great wins for Alyas Hamza, Mark Sedgwick, Jake Richards, Ryan O’Neill, Jordan Frost and Weston Bogle but the two lads who really stood out were Zakir Rahman and Azad Khan.  These two lads are real class, they faced strong opponents from the Czech Republic and Russia respectively in their finals but they just upped a gear and dealt with them both.  These two lads can achieve all they want to in the future and are two names to look out for!

The Opening Ceremony for some reason was put back until that evening and turned out to be a real dazzling affair. Each Country selected some of their kids to carry their Countries placard and flag and as their Countries name was announced they had to march in and line the perimeter of the Sporthalle.
This was followed by some live pop and rock singing acts followed by some dance groups.  It was great entertainment for the spectators and a very proud moment for the kids involved.

Next came the usual speeches from the local Mayor, the promoter of the event, ISKA European President Mr. Fritz Exenberger and ISKA World President Mr. Cory Schaffer which brought the first day to a close with Team England’s kids having achieved a good day’s work and setting the standard for the adults to follow. It was now time for all the National Directors and myself to attend the World Congress meeting chaired by our President Mr. Cory Schaffer of the United States.

This was again a very productive meeting and well attended.  We voted Rome, Italy as the host of next year’s European Championships with Spain hosting the World’s in 2010.  It was great to see many of my friends again and was a very enjoyable evening. The next morning’s competition started promptly at 9.00 a.m. with Forms and Kata. The creative and weapons to music in particular was spectacular to watch.  With strong competition from Germany and the Czech Republic in particular.Team England battled well winning many medals.  The best being Jack Underwood taking Gold in the Kids 12 and under Musical Weapons division against some strong opposition and National Coach Dave Busby taking the Men’s Musical Weapon division to also become World Champion 2008 with a fine sword display. Adam Beniston also won Gold in the Men’s Korean Style.

The Men’s Oriental Rules also began that morning with Team England’s Tom Kent and Rickie Hamilton getting into the action.  Rickie was first up and this kid has the heart of a lion, pushing forward with good boxing, kicking and knee combinations and never taking the back foot.Although being tough fights Rickie out pointed his first two opponents, fighting his way to the Semi’s which would be held the following morning.

The one thing that was very noticeable at this World Championships was that the standard of the competition was very high and if our people were going to win they would have to be on their game.Next up was Tom Kent known to us as the baby faced assassin, so much so that when he went to weigh-in they thought he was a Junior!  His well built and angry looking Czech opponent must have been thinking the same when
he entered the ring.  Tom is a quiet unassuming lad, but when he steps through the ropes he flicks a switch and becomes a man on a mission and his Czech opponent was about to find out.  Tom systematically took him apart with punches, low kick, body kick, knee and head kick combo’s, eventually stopping his opponent in the third round.  This was a wake up call for anyone underestimating this kid!National Coach Lee Whittington was over the moon with the lad’s performances and eagerly awaited the next day’s competition. You could tell Team England were having a lot of success as suddenly every Country in the tournament were shouting for the opposition regardless of what Country they came from.  But this just made us even more focused and determined to win.

Our ladies points fighters came up next and really put on a display Gemma Wilcockson out pointed her Hungarian opponent in a fight that went one way and then the other with Gemma nicking it at the death.Nina Das Gupta and Beverley Sturzaker both beat Czech opponents to take Gold. Julie Charlesworth won Gold in the Veterans but it was Denise Bryant who took Gold in both Semi-Contact and Light-Contact who really stole the show with really tenacious displays especially in the Light-Contact, a double World Champion.Kelly Day showed strong basics and real heart in what were hard earned wins.  Her Austrian opponent was well beaten in the final, another World Champ.

The outstanding fighters in the Men’s divisions of Light and Semi-Contact were Dave Maddocks (Semi) and Nathan Reeve (Light).  Both were class acts and rightful World Champions.  Dave won both normal and veterans and Nathan also won Silver in the Full-Contact as well narrowly missing out to a strong Russian opponent.Mark Gould also took Gold in Semi-Contact along with Shaun Bradley& Chris Squirrell in the Light-Contact.  Jason Morrison performed extremely well in the veterans which are always taken very seriously by all competitors. Jason had some tough fights for his Gold. Daz Ellis showed he still has what it takes winning the Masters division with style. But the guy I really felt sorry for was Murray Dadswell.  This lad deserves a mention.  Murray was completely ripped off, he had shown great skill and composure in every bout with fine displays of controlled Light-Contact.  Murray has massive potential and should have won Gold.  He is another lad that has a big future ahead of him.

The surprise of the tournament was Qasim Nisar losing in his final to his strong Russian opponent.  We all thought Qasim was a dead cert but as I’ve already said, the standard of the competition was very high.It was time for the Teams.  Our Junior Boys team was really on form and only lost in the final down to some bad refereeing.  Our Ladies won Silver. While the Men’s team lost out to eventual winners the Czech Republic and ended up with the Bronze medal.

It was back to the Ring Sports divisions and Rickie Hamilton was back in the ring for his Semi-Final. He faced a very strong Georgian who as soon as he came out had ‘pro’ written all over him.Rickie being Rickie got stuck into him and even rocked him during the second round but the Georgian just had that bit too much for him in the end.Our Coach Lee Whittington had his suspicions about the Georgian, who we found out afterwards was based in the Czech Republic. We decided to google his name and found the evidence we needed that this guy was a real ‘pro’.We lodged an appeal which was upheld and the guy was disqualified and Rickie was awarded the Silver medal.

Tom Kent was due to fight the Georgian in the final but automatically took Gold.  Tom was disappointed as he wanted to fight the guy, pro or not.  That’s the type of guy Tom is.This Georgian guy slipped through the net and checks will be tightened up for next year’s event.

In Full-Contact we now have a Ladies World Champion in Sevda Arif who outgunned a very competent and tough Danish opponent to take Gold.  Sevda also took Silver in the Light-Contact division.  She had a nice black eye to show for it but said it was all worth it.

Another World Champion in Adam Stretton.  Adam is a great lad with a real dig on him.  Adam knocked out all of his opponents including the French guy in the final, dispatching him in the second round.  Adam is not just a big puncher he also has good all round techniques.  We are all really pleased for him.
Michael French took a respectable Bronze in his division.

The World Championships climaxed with an Evening Gala, which as usual with ISKA is a great way to finish the Championships. This show had it all – dance groups, ring girls, live music, fireworks, good fights, knockouts and demonstrations.  Everyone left on a high. The buzz in the Team England camp was clear to be seen.  We had managed to keep the great team spirit in the team even though we had grown in every area. The feedback we have received from the trip has been fantastic with everyone looking forward to Rome next year.

I would like to say a big thank you and well done to all of our Team, from competitors to coaches, to referees, officials and spectators.

You are all part of our Team and I appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you at our British Open Championships on 9th November 08 and our English Open and Qualifiers for the European Championships in Rome on 29th March 2009.

Event report

Zuccala and McCafferty thrill a packed house with the fight of the year. Fran Zuccala faced Tommy McCafferty defending his ISKA World Light-middleweight title in front of a sold out crowd at the Clanree Hotel in Letterkenny, Ireland on the 8th November.Promoted by Paddy Toland this fight had everything, the young contender stepping up to fight the experience Champion there was drama, controversy, blood, sweat and tears just like a Rocky movie. Twelve action packed rounds that swung one way then the other and earned both men a standing ovation from the thousand plus spectators. From the sound of the first bell McCafferty pounced on Zuccala backing him into his own corner with a barrage of fast accurate punches and kicks. Zuccala settled in the second round and stung McCafferty with some heavy counter punches. In the third it nearly all when wrong both men were leaning into their punches after a close quarter exchange Zuccala was cut on the nose and complained it was due to a clash of heads he had complained that he had been butted earlier in the round. As Zuccala was checked by the medical team, the referee John Blackledge consulted with the ringside judges who agreed the head clash was accidental there was no foul play on the part of McCafferty. Zuccala was cleared to fight on as the cut was minor and did not affect his vision or breathing the third round ended without further drama. In fourth and fifth rounds McCafferty pulled ahead outworking Zuccala with a variety of punch kick combinations and some accurate short back kicks. McCafferty was racking up the points in the sixth until the last thirty seconds of the round Zuccala landed a solid one-two punch combo followed by a left leg head kick and for the first time in the fight McCafferty was on his back foot stunned and trying tie up in a clinch Zuccala managed to land some more hurtful punches before the bell and McCafferty walked back to his corner on unsteady legs. Zuccala was now in the driving seat and dominated rounds seven and eight the snap had gone out of McCafferty strikes and he soaked up some heavy punches. Both men were feeling the pace in rounds nine and ten McCafferty regained some of his rhythm winning his share of the rounds but both his eyes were marked and swollen. The eleventh round was incredible god only knows were McCafferty found the energy but he opened up with explosive kicks the impact of which could probably be heard in the next town. Six or seven unanswered kicks cracked against Zuccala’s body and arms sapping his strength. McCafferty’s second wind continued in the twelfth round, he pressed forward taking the fight to Zuccala urged on by his hometown fans that by now were so loud they could probably be heard in England. In the last twenty seconds Zuccala landed series of heavy punches that had McCafferty reeling but he stayed on his feet to hear the final bell. Everyone in the hall was standing and applauding both men as they embraced and congratulated each other. The announcement was made and the new ISKA World Light-middleweight Champion of the World Tommy McCafferty by unanimous decision and gracious in defeat Fran Zuccala presented him with the Championship belt. Highlights of the fight will be broadcast by Irish cable TV channel Setanta Nationwide as part of a documentary about Tommy McCafferty and Paddy Toland’s Kickboxing team.

Event report

ISKA Championship Kickboxing at the Circus Tavern

Another great night of full contact action promoted by Kickin promotions, including Title fights and a very emotional main event between the pride of Aveley Jason Vassallo and Aaron Robinson. This fight was in honour of Lance Corporal Nicky Mason of the 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment who was killed in an explosion in Helmand Province, Afghanistan on the 13th of September 2008. Nicky from Aveley, Essex and lifelong friend of Jason was also a keen Martial artist. He was remembered on the night with a minute silence followed by a minute clapping in what I can only describe as a feeling of its proud to be British, soldiers from his regiment collected over £1400.00 on the night for the Parachute regiment central funds.

The main event was a prestige contest over 7x2 rounds between Jason Vassallo (Aveley KB) and Aaron Robinson (Lincoln KB). The ring entrance for Vassallo was emotional and with Robinson already in the ring Vassallo entered with most of Nicky Mason’s parachute regiment a proud moment for all attending. First round was a close one with good skills from both fighters and use of the ring.  Round two saw good kick punch combinations from both fighters and at a good even pace. More of the same in the third. Vassallo stepped up the pressure in the fourth forcing Robinson back with good boxing and landing heavy looking shots, a very good round for Vassallo. He kept the pressure on in the fifth another strong round for Vassallo forcing the pace and landing quality shots to the body and head and dropping Robinson late in the round with a right hook to the body. Vassallo came out a fast and hard in the sixth with good kick punch combinations and half way through the round forced a stoppage with heavy body and head shots. Classy performance and winner by TKO Jason Vassallo.

The semi-main event featured the long awaited match between Ollie Green (Aveley KB) and Mo Kargbo (Mu Gen Do). Green was defending his ISKA British Cruiserweight title scheduled for seven rounds. Both men got straight down to business trading powerful kicks the opening rounds were fairly even. Midway through the third round Karbo fired a left right punch combination connecting cleanly, Green drooped to the canvas unable to best the count, a KO victory for the new ISKA British Cruiserweight Champion Mo Kargbo.

The Ladies ISKA British Lightweight Title was contested between Anna Otterwell (Spartans) and Bonnie Webb (Wiffen Academy) both girls showed great skill determination and stamina in a worthy Championship match the went the full seven rounds and was a great advert for women’s Kickboxing. Otterwell won by majority decision.

ISKA English Lightweight Title defence between the Champion Richard Hines, (Aveley KB) and the challenger Mick Dunford (Scorpions) was a competitive clash the fits three round were full of Sharpe exchanges. Hines stepped up a gear in the fourth landing the more clean and telling blows with both hands and feet. Hines dictated the pace of the fifth and final round to retain his title with a unanimous decision.

ISKA Southern Area Super Middleweight Title was contested between Reece Rowell (Aveley KB) and Will Wright (Lincoln KB). A solid five round contest with some blistering exchanges. Wright didn’t kick enough in the early rounds Rowell took advantage racking up the points to win a unanimous decision.

In the supporting bouts there was a cracking fight to start the show with between Jay Streeton (Pro-Am) and Jim Longley, (Wiffen Academy). Both men made an impressive debut, Streeton took the decision.
In a Super-heavyweight contest Michael Mann (Warriors Kings Lynn) stopped Rob Storey (Modka) with a heavy right hand near the end of the first round. Chris Hughes (Aveley KB) and Glen Julian (Scorpions) were even going in to the third and final round of their match Hughes landed a straight right scoring a knockdown to confirm a point victory. Glenn Coleman (Scorpions) defeated Wayne Barford (Modka) by unanimous decision. Pavel Barcikowski (Wiffen Academy) force a standing count in the first round of his match with Jason Whitmore (Aveley KB) who fought back hard in the following two rounds, but Barcikowski prevailed taking the points decision. Danny Ellie (Aveley KB) stopped Sam Kavanagh (Scorpions) with a heavy punching combination in the second round. In the first of two ISKA Oriental Rules matches Darren Holden (Aveley KB) defeated Dan Theobald (Benfleet Thai) by unanimous decision and Vinny Helwig (Nak Soo) fought to a draw with and Ross Gatrell (Benfleet Thai)

Epic Battle for ISKA Bantamweight title

Bad Company promotions in association with Showsport International staged a World Championship card at the prestigious Leeds Town Hall on the 18th October. European and Intercontinental Champion Andy Howson form the Bad Company Gym in Leeds faced Japanese Champion Kunitaka Fujiwa form Osaka Japan to contest the vacant ISKA World Bantamweight title under Muaythai rules.
Judging by the pace of the first round, these two experienced fighters had never heard of the first round feeling out, it was ferocious from the start and both lads landed heavy low kicks and left body hooks. Interesting technical point, the Japanese lad stepped in closer to land his body hooks, turning the fist up as well as in, a better technical boxing punch, but it left him open to right hand and elbow counters which Andy later capitalised on. The second carried on where the 1st left off with both lads trading shots, Andy was looking the stronger and the Japanese lad was starting to tire.  The third round started off flowing backwards and forwards with both lads being spun around from punches, Andy edged ahead as he kicked the Kunitaka off his feet twice.
Into the fourth and no sign of the pace slowing, Andy was scoring very well with left body kicks when from nowhere he was caught with an elbow which put him on the floor.  He bounced straight back up so no count, Kunitaka advanced but Andy had recovered well and the two went to war, Andy coming out of that exchange the stronger.  Despite the flash “knockdown“ Andy won this round as he was a long way ahead in the round before the knock down, there was no count and he still landed more scoring shots after the “knockdown.”
Into the fifth and final round and Andy went to war, he opened up with everything, turning the Japanese lad in the clinch and both kneeing and elbowing him, he even landed some good knees to the head.  With less than a minute to go Andy was well ahead, but despite his corner urging him to grab and knee, something which his opponent had no answer to, Andy decided to carry on trading hand and elbow shots.  This could have been a disaster as he was cut with about 10 seconds to go and whilst it was right in the middle of his forehead, it was too high, to small and too late to have any impact on the verdict. The decision was announced and by unanimous decision the new ISKA World Super Bantamweight champion was Andy Howson from Leeds.  This was one of the best fights I have seen in England, a great technical war, which displayed the best and worst of Andy Howson, the great, clever fighter and the lad who just doesn’t quite know when it’s not that good an idea to mix it

WMC World Champion Liam Harrison faced Japan’s Masaru Ito in a non-title Superfight.
Masaru started the first round fast, on his toes dancing around and trying to catch Liam with fast hand and low kick combinations.  He actually caught Liam with an uppercut elbow in the first round which opened the smallest of nicks on Liam right eye.  Liam was totally unfazed by anything Masaru could throw at him.  In the second Liam picked things up, catching Masaru’s leg and kicking him to the floor, right at the end of the second round Liam landed a right elbow which opened up a long cut behind Masura’s left ear. The 3rd, 4th and 4th rounds were a master class from Liam.  He hit Masura with everything, left hooks and right hands to body and face, right low kicks, which looked strong enough to break a horses leg, left body kicks, high kicks with both legs.  Another elbow opened up another cut on Masura.  The most impressive thing from Liam though was his clinch and knee; his off balancing techniques were sublime and some long knees so strong.  Masura was tough as old boots though, he was hit with one knee that seemed to propel him half way across the ring, he was bent double when he hit the corner post, but then just stood straight back up.  In the last round it looked as though Liam was thinking about trying the cartwheel kick he had promised everyone, but decided against it.  At the final bell Liam was a landslide winner.
Much is made of Liam Harrison and in my view quite rightly so.  In the last couple of years Liam has matured as a fighter, adding so much to his game.  A naturally tremendously strong lad, I actually think his best attribute is his timing.  All great sports people, not matter what their sport, seem to have lots of time to do what they want to do.  If you watch Wayne Rooney play football, he seems sometimes to have so much time to make his mind up what he is going to do.  Liam has this ability as a Thai Boxer.  He read everything the Japanese lad was trying and dealt with it accordingly.  Some of the shots he pulled of he shouldn’t have been able to, but has that ability to do things ordinary people cannot do!
All in all, another great show at the Leeds Town Hall.  The performances across the board show that in some places UK Muay Thai is defiantly going in the right direction!

Supporting bouts:

George Berry v Anth Shelton
Anth started very fast in round one, catching George’s kicking leg and kicking him of his feet three times in the first round, George replying with some reasonable knees.  It was the same in the second round as Anth again caught George’s leg and kicked him to the floor twice. At the end of the second it looked as though Anth may be starting to tire. The third round saw George start to come back into the fight but was a more even round, both lads catching each other with good techniques, Anth looking very strong with his hands, especially the left hook to the body, George Kneeing and kicking well.  The fourth round started with a good exchange of knees, one of George’s seemed to hurt Anth and he spent a lot of the round on the back foot, George was starting to look the fitter and stronger fighter now.  As the bell went for the last round George was urged on by his corner to take the fight to Anth, a fairly even start to the round, but George took over landing some good knees and a couple of very hurtful Body kicks.  At the bell the crowd showed their appreciation for a cracking fight from two young lads who had given their all.  The winner, George Berry by unanimous decision.

Ian Robinson v Luke Turner
The traditional feeling out first round ended with Luke Turner trying to off balance Ian out of the clinch.  The second was Luke’s as he landed a couple of good knees and body kicks, and this time succeeded in throwing Ian to the floor from the clinch.  In the third it was obvious that Ian was really struggling to come to terms with Luke’s additional reach and was not finding his range, Luke scoring well throughout the round including another high scoring throw from the clinch.  As the fourth started it was clear Ian was behind and had been told by his corner he had to do something extra to get back into this fight, he started well and was forcing back Luke.  Luke however soaked up the pressure and was able to score again in the latter half of the round with yet more knees and a good high kick to top it off.  At the start of the last round Ian was pressing looking for the knockout, which would appear to be the only way he was going to win.  Luke was tiring, but Ian just could not find the shot and Luke Turner was winner by unanimous points decision.  Another good fight from two inexperienced guys (relative at least to other fighters on the show).

Kyle Fella v Scott Dixon
Again two young lads being given their chance to impress on one of the UK’s biggest shows.  The fight was the same throughout, Kyle Fella showing great balance and timing to totally control his opponent with strong boxing and great teep’s.  A brief rally in the fourth was never going to be enough and Kyle was a runaway victor.

Davy Mac V Joey Brincot
A very cagey affair, neither lad seemed to get going, Joey was quick to go into the clinch but didn’t really do anything when he got in there, Davy scored a couple of body kicks and front kicks in the latter half of the fight.  Joey rallied in the last, but his kicks had little power and didn’t bother Davy.  Davy winning on points.

Sarah McCarthy v Anna Zuccelli
Anna was taller than Sarah and from the off it was obvious she was well schooled in how to use this to her advantage.  Throughout the first three rounds Anna used her teep and long knees to keep Sarah at bay.  Her knees didn’t look particularly strong but they were very accurate and were preventing Sarah from throwing her own customary hard knees and strong clinch.  Having seen all Sarah’s previous fights it has to be said she did not look herself, her timing was off and she was nowhere near as strong as normal.  She did press hard in the last two rounds, she caught Anna with some heavy shots, and whilst Anna tired she still managed to knee back and caught Sarah with several front kicks to the face.  At the bell Anna was a split decision winner, a rematch would be another good fight!

Craig Burke v John Love
This fight was for the ISKA British Heavyweight championship (oriental rules)
John Love took this fight at a weeks notice after being out of the ring for two years.  At only 19 years old he was giving away a lot of combat experience against Craig Burke, a former knockdown Karate champion as well as Thai Boxer.  The fight followed the same pattern throughout.  Craig used a god side kick to keep John at bay pushing him across the ring several times.  In the first and fourth rounds Craig also landed several good right body kicks.  John was showing some ring rust, his timing and accuracy was a little of and he never quite landed the big knockout shots he is known for.  Up close neither lad used the knee much, John tried some in the fourth but went to the head and they had little power by the time they got there.  Both big lads tired in the back end of the fight, but Craig was teeing off with right hands in the last round and even tried a couple of spinning kicks.  Craig took the fight unanimous decision.

Mark Da Luca v Danny Hadfield
I almost felt sorry for the two lads who had to follow Liam.  Last time out Mark had looked superb against Alex James.  Danny is not that well know, but has spent time in Thailand training and fighting.  His dad, Mark, was actually one of the first English people to train and fight in Thailand.  The first two rounds were cagey, with Mark showing some good timing and Danny not quite getting his distance right.  In the third things picked up and Danny landed a spinning elbow which put Mark down.  Mark jumped straight back up, so no count, but Danny pounced on Mark landing good boxing knees and elbows.  Mark was in trouble and the ref stepped in to give him an eight count.  A big round to Danny.  In the fourth Mark tried to get back into the fight and pressed, but Danny dealt with what Mark threw and still scored well with some good knees in the clinch.  The fifth was the same and mark was showing the effects of the third round and then having to force the fight, not his normal style.  Danny was unanimous points victory and a good win for him.

Event report

Rung retains World title

Thailand’s Rungnakorn Kharnpan or Rung as he is known to UK fight fans made a second successful defence of his ISKA World Light-Welterweight Muaythai title inside four months. He faced undefeated Scottish Muaythai Champion James Doolan at the Oran Morin in Glasgow on the 14th September. Doolan started tentatively testing his distance with low kicks, Rung answered with firm body shots. In the clinch Doolan was defensive, trying to tie Rung up, on the break Doolan took his chance, backing Rung into a corner and unloading a barrage of twenty or more punches, Rung covers up and rides the storm then steps through with a right cross rocking Doolan. In Round two Rungs body kicks are really taking effect, Doolan looks tired, he goes down from a knee to the stomach and takes an eight count, Rung is back on him with body kicks Doolan hits the ropes starts to fold when Rung unleashes a right elbow catching Doolan above the left eye, opening up a 6cm cut, the doctor deems him unable to continue at 2.25 minutes of the second.

The main event was an international contest between Jason Vassallo (Aveley KB) and Tamas Bitman from (Hungary) over seven rounds. A very good start from Vassallo using his hands and legs well. Bitman was prepared to stand and trade. Round two: another good round for Vassallo showing good ringcraft and nice technical kicks, Bitman taking the shots well. In round three Vassallo started fast again forcing Bitman back with a good variety of kick punch combinations. Bitman was just starting to feel this fast pace. Round four: Vassallo now firing on all cylinders again stepped up the pace with good boxing and nice kick punch combinations again putting Bitman on the back foot. Well into the round Vassallo caught Bitman with two spinning hook kicks to the head and on the second of them Bitman signalled he was hurt and retired himself. The winner and classy performance by TKO Jason Vassallo.

Another international contest, a ladies match between Tracy Reno (Heathrow KB) and Zsofia Bedo (Hungary) over five rounds. Good start from Reno with good use of the ring. Round two: again Reno working well with good kick punch combinations. In the third the Hungarian tried to raise her game, but Reno forced a stoppage half way through the round with good heavy shots.

The supporting bouts were fast paced and entertaining. Ollie Green (Aveley KB) faced Andrew Tate (Storm gym). Good solid start from both fighters, good strong kicking from Green. Round two was a good even round, the better kicking coming from Green. By the third Tate was starting to find his range, and using his hands well, both fighters landing heavy shots. In the fourth more good work from both fighters and half way through the round Tate countered a heavy looking right from Green with an uppercut forcing Green to the canvas. The referee waived the fight off and winner by TKO Andrew Tate.

Round two was an even round for both fighters, both using the ring well. The third was all action, both showing good skills and ring craft. A well matched fight. The winner by unanimous decision Richard Hines.

The decision after three hard rounds, a majority points win for Chris O’Connor.

Much the same in round two as the first, pretty even. They stepped up in the third, toe to toe action from both fighters right to the final bell, the winner by majority decision Louise Wilson.
