Crooke is back, but like Calzaghe he’s serious about retirement
Wombourne’s Thai Boxing superstar Peter Crooke steps back into the ring at the Civic on Sunday November 30th, as adamant as another great world champion, Joe Calzaghe, that this will definitely be his last ever fight.
And before anyone doubts the 39-year-old, who has now twice been tempted out of retirement since quitting two years ago, Crooke has himself lined up for major knee surgery in January, which he says will take him out of competitive martial arts whether he likes it or not.
“I’m not going down the road of more comebacks than Frank Sinatra,” said Crooke. “The surgery will take me out of action for a year, and then on top of that, it’d take time to get back to true fighting fitness, so November 30th is definitely my last appearance”.In typical Crooke style, who has 50 wins and one draw in his glittering 58-fight career, he is tackling yet another world-class opponent in the shape of Croatia’s Dominik Zidov, who shot to fame in ITV’s The Contender series.“Victory over me would be a massive scalp for Zidov,” said Crooke. “He punches and kicks from all sorts of angles, so I’m not messing about. It’s going to end in a knockout, whether he gets to me or I get to him. I can’t wait to get stuck in”.
The November 30th show starts at the Civic at 6pm (doors open at 5pm), with tickets priced from £25 (adults) and £15 (children). Ringside (£40) and VIP (£75) are also available. Box office 0870 320 7000, or on-line at http://www.wolvescivic.co.uk
