ISKA UK AGM
ISKA UK had its Annual General Meeting on the 3rd February at Jurys Inn Birmingham. The meeting was chaired by ISKA UK Executive Director Paul Hennessy.
The AGM of ISKA UK in session
Highlights from the meeting included the chairman’s report of the association’s activities during 2007 in which it sanctioned 62 events including 7 World title bouts, 4 European title bouts, 7 Commonwealth title bouts 53 British, National and regional title bouts. The sanctioned bouts were under both Kickboxing and Muaythai rules in both the male and female Amateur and Pro divisions, over 800 bouts were contested under ISKA rules.
Plans for introducing annual full Medical for all fighters wishing to compete on ISKA events were discussed and long term plans to introduce blood testing for HIV, Hepatitis B and C for the pro divisions. Proposed changes to the Kickboxing rules and regulations could see the return of spinning back fist, British title fights being contested over ten rounds and harsh penalties for fighters who don’t perform the minimum number of kicks per round. The 28 day medical suspension rule will be made simpler, the previous rules stated that if a fighter lost by KO or TKO by blows to the head he would be suspended from competing or sparing for 28 days, too many trainers and fighters try to split hairs with excuses like, “I wasn’t knocked out, I slipped, or the referee didn’t count to ten, or the referee didn’t stop the fight, I threw in the towel”. The rule is there to protect fighters from serious injury. The new rule will state that if the referee or doctor stops the fight because one of the fighters can no longer defend himself for whatever reason that fighter will be suspended.
Preliminary plans to produce a weekly TV programme, titled ISKA Kick Fighters were announce, the one hour shows will feature Muaythai and Kickboxing bouts. The first four programmes are in post production and will feature action from MUAYTHAI SUPERFIGHTS 07. The first season of ISKA Kick Fighters will start late May 2008 and will run for twenty weeks on a Satellite channel.
