New home for Jesters Gym
After 5 years of using sports centre’s, church halls, rented studios and even a loft in a barn, Jesters Gym have finally found their permanent home in the Centre of Matlock, Derbyshire. Towards the end of 2008 Dale Wood and Mark Ball had turned a disused laboratory on the edge of the town centre into a mixed martial artists dream.
A fully matted gym complete with a variety of bags, pads, boxing ring, private studio, shower and changing facilities, lounge room and shop. With classes in Kickboxing, Thai Boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and mixed martial arts , taught by experienced instructors with the same views on the importance of ‘mixed’ martial arts being the way forward, all believing there is no complete martial art, and every style has something to offer.None of this would have been possible if it wasn’t for the hard work of the students, parents and local businesses alike. After chasing lottery grants and having the goal posts changed on countless occasions Jesters were finally helped out by various local businesses realizing the need for and seeing the gyms place in the local community and helped out financially in the project set up.
With 2009 here the gym is already giving something back by staging its first charity event. On Saturday April 18th Jesters Head coach Dale Wood will step up for 100 rounds of sparring to raise money for locally based “Derwent Rural Counseling Service”. Dale will face 25 sparring partners all doing 4 rounds a piece back to back. Anybody wishing to support the event or come along can contact the gym on 07974655146
