Nigel was nominated for his drive and continued determination to achieve great things within his profession and sport.

Nigel and the East Area Kick Boxing Squad were also put forward for at the Bedford Sports Awards 2008.

Nigel was successful in achieving ‘Sports Coach of the Year 2008’.  This was due to the club’s continued success in 2007 and 2008.  With a vast medal and trophy haul for the kick boxing team, the Thai boxing crew won over 20 fights in 2008 and produced 2 British Champions and 4 southern areas champions within 2008.  The club holds 36 title belts to date which includes Area, English British, 4 Nations, Commonwealth & World titles.  Nigel was recognised for his commitment, dedication and success with East Area.

Nigel’s Kick Boxing Squad was awarded with the Bedford Sport Awards ‘Team of the Year 2008’.  This was based on the team’s continued success, locally and nationally, the vast age range within the team and their dedication to training.

East Area is a family, with each individual student valued for the important role they play in a successful team.  Every single person within the team is encouraged to learn, perform, develop and grow. The leadership, incredible commitment and dedication of chief instructor Nigel develops a positive impact on the life of each student and fighter.  Nigel’s structured disciplined and supportive approach to teaching and training ensures students reach their full potential.  Nigel’s impressive history of trophies, titles and belts is an inspiration to his students and assistant instructors.  Admired and respected by those who train under his support and guidance, Nigel Thompson deserved to win the ‘Coach of the Year award’ for the positive difference he makes to people’s lives.  Nigel’s devotion goes way beyond the day-to-day requirements of an instructor.  Nigel provides opportunities for learning on a broad scale, often sacrificing his own time to support his students and their progress in Martial Arts.
