Top ten beckons for hard-punching Bhella
Victory at the Civic Hall on Sunday November 30th could propel teenage Thai Boxer Kerrith Bhella into the British top ten of the highly competitive welterweight division – and put him in with a chance at a major title.

Up against Liverpool’s former British Champion Greg Severs, this is a significant step up in class for Bhella, who noticeably has five stoppages in his ten victories; none more impressive than in his most recent contest, when he produced a stunning left hook to knock out Tom Bird from Leeds.
“I’ve seen Greg Severs fight and I know it’s going to be a big test for me”, said Bhella. “He’s tough and has strong hands, but I can’t back down from this sort of opportunity”.Under the guidance of trainer Joby Clayton, 19-year-old Bhella from Whitmore Reans has been working hard at the Firewalker Health Club, concentrating on ways to complement his undoubted punching power with knee-strikes and kicking.“I want to keep busy and that’s much easier when you’re on a winning streak,” he added. “There are plenty of good fighters in the welterweight division, so a win over Severs will help put me amongst them.”
Bhella’s showdown against Severs is part of an excellent support bill to Peter Crooke’s farewell fight against Dominik Zidov. Also in action from Firewalker are British Champion Michelle Newell and the unbeaten Bulgarian Ivan Danyanov.
In addition, Showsport International’s ‘Muay Thai Superfights’ event features a intriguing contest for the vacant world welterweight title between Sheffield’s Helene Garnett (who works as a drugs counsellor) and French champion Laetitia Bakissy. Sheffield’s spectacular Imran ‘Haji’ Khan completes the line-up in a bout against the highly ranked French champion Hamed Doumbia.
The November 30th Muay Thai Superfights show at the Civic starts at 6pm (doors open at 5pm), with tickets priced from £25 (adults) and £15 (children). Ringside (£40) and VIP (£75) are also available. Box office 0870 320 7000, or on-line at http://www.wolvescivic.co.uk
