3 ISKA World titles contested in Derry

Ireland’s leading Kickboxing promoter Paddy Toland staged three ISKA World title fights, at St. Columbs Hall in Derry Northern Ireland. A capacity crowd turned out to watch Ireland’s Daniel ‘Pinta’ Quigley and Natalie McCarron both challenge for a third world title and Aidan Lafferty challenge for his first title.

The 26 year-old Derry man Daniel ‘Pinta’ Quigley dominated Spain’s Jose de la llera before forcing him into retirement at the end of the third round of the ISKA super heavyweight title showdown. Limping badly and suffering a swollen right eye, the Spaniard simply couldn’t compete with Quigley’s punching power and accuracy throughout an intense, relentless opening to the main event and his corner threw in the towel as the round drew to a close.

Quigley now holds the Cruiserweight, heavyweight and super heavyweight belts and he was delighted with his latest achievement. I’m on top of the world,” he said. “He was really strong at the start of the first round, he caught me with a couple of punches so I knew I had to keep the guard up. “When I went back in the corner at the end of the first round and re-gathered myself, Paddy (Toland) said the right words as he always does. I went back out in the second and I hit him with a few straight rights and he didn’t want to know. I knew I had him beat then. “I’ve been working on my straight right hand in training and I caught him with a couple and he didn’t want to know. I wanted to finish it early and the training really paid off. “I hit him a cracker and saw his eye swell up and he kept looking into his corner, so at that point I knew he was beat. He was a really nice man and it’s a shame I beat him the way I did, but I’m glad I won the title.” “All my training really paid off and I’d really like to thank Natalie (McCarron), Aidan (Lafferty), Paddy Toland and my family for being so supportive.

Natalie McCarron exacted revenge on England’s Andree Warbrick with an impressive display on her way to becoming a three time World Champion, McCarron had previously lost a decision Warbick before going on to win two World titles, Warbick called her out and McCarron was happy to oblige dropping down a weight division to contest the World Flyweight title, McCarron won a clear points decision

Aidan Lafferty claimed his first world title with a fourth round stoppage of British champion, Aaron Robinson from Lincoln. “Having watched him in previous fights, I bided my time and waited to get a couple of rounds over before stepping up my game” said Lafferty afterwards.
“I caught him with a nice body shot and then started to work on him because I knew he was near the end. I’m stronger than most people my weight so I had the power and he couldn’t cope with it. “He caught me with a couple of shots. I put him down in the third and I sensed I could take him. Paddy said to me in the corner after that he was there for the taking and once he said that I knew it wouldn’t go on for much longer.
“I got him into the corner and went for his head but he had his guard up and I started going for the body. I happened to put him down with a right hook into the body and I seen the referee counting. He dropped his hands once the ref got to six and then he told him to put them up again so I knew he was cautious.
“I let him throw a couple when he got back up and then I just went for it and caught him with a front kick into the body again.
“It’s a brilliant feeling, it’s what I’ve worked towards and I’d just like to thank Paddy Toland. I’ll just keep going and I’ll take any defence,” he concluded.
