The quite suburb of Monterotondo in Rome, Italy hosted the 2009 ISKA Amateur European Championships. 450 competitors from 19 Countries participated over three days in several Martial Arts disciplines.
ISKA World president Mr. Cory Schafer was invited as honourable guest and officially opened the event. Although there were many problems with the organisation of the event, the level of the fights good.
The UK fielded a strong team with competitors in almost all the disciplines on the Matts and in the rings, The UK coaches and Team managers did a great job preparing their teams and it paid of with a massive medal haul, including 60 Gold, 27 Silver and 20 Bronze.
The ISKA European amateur division was only established in 2006, the event in Rome was the third European Championship, It’s a pity the organization was not up to the standards of the competitors, but lessons have been learned and we can look forward to the ISKA Amateur World Championship in Almeria, Spain November 2010
