Amateur Referee and Judges course

The first ISKA Amateur referee and judges course for 2011 was held at the Watford Freestyle Kickboxing School in Bushby, Watford. The candidates were put through their paces by ISKA Amateur Director, Mr Clifton Findley, and the watchful eyes of, Mr David Ryan.

The course began with everyone receiving a set of rules. They had time to study and prepare themselves while other students were warming up, ready to be tested later on.
After a brief talk they were taken to the matted area where they had to show their skills on how to referee a contest, from checking the fighter’s equipment to exit warnings and decision or infringement making within the rules.
Once they were finished with this exercise, which took approximately an hour and a half, they were brought back to the office where they all sat a written examination.
The examination took half an hour after which a further talk regarding rules resumed while the scores were totalled.
Crunch time came when I returned to announce the pass rate; I was very pleased to tell all the candidates that they had all been successful.
Each referee/judge received an ISKA blue shirt, tie and a certificate for their hard work.
I would like to thank all referees who attended the course, also Mr Dave Ryan, the instructor who organised the course and finally all the children and adults who waited patiently for the referees and judges.
ISKA have appointed Mr David Hughes as the new ISKA Chief Referee for the amateur division.  Mr Hughes has over 20 years experience in this field and is very much looking forward to a new challenge.
