Ashdown battles Murray for Ladies ISKA World title in Sydney Australia
British and European Champion Ruth Ashdown accepted incredible invitation to fight the four times World Champion Serrin Murray on her home ground, Sydney, Australia! The match was set for the 29th October, The show consisted of 12 Muaythai fights with the Girls World Title match headlining the show. The venue was filled with excited Australian fans, ready to cheer on their Champion, who was coming off her sixth win in a row....
Ashdown came out to a bit of a frosty reception, but the girls showed respect and sportsmanship to one another. First three rounds showed good Muaythai technique, Ashdown slightly edging the rounds but she knew she had to do more to win such a massive fight in another country, Ashdown stepped it up in the fourth, hurting Murray with a big right cross, then a big knee forcing an eight count by the referee straight after the bell rang. Ashdown sense victory was at hand, she pushed forward, landing some jumping punches and combinations, Murray did not have any answers and Ashdown finished strong taking a unanimous point’s decision and the ISKA World Super-flyweight Championship belt.
After the fight serrin said “I’m bummed out, my opponent was way too good, basically. I have had a bit of a wakeup call..."Serrin’s trainer Rob Murdoch wanted to add “Ruth was the best fighter Serrin has ever fought and she was the better fighter on the night, she deserves to be World Champion.”
Ruth Ashdown was very thankful for the opportunity and is over the moon with the win. She has trained very hard and wanted this for a very long time, words cannot explain how very happy she is. She would like to say a massive thank you to her trainer John Jarvis and Paulo, her Mum and all her incredible friends who have given her so much love and support, “ I couldn’t have done it without them and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.”
John Jarvis the owner of Crawley Martial Arts Academy said “Ruth trained so hard for this, she thoroughly deserves to be world champion! To go and win in Australia is a massive achievement”.
