Clash of the Titans

It is truly the Number One Martial Arts spectacular, YES Clash of the Titans, YES it’s fast, YES it’s furious, YES it’s brilliant!! Huddersfield Sports Centre was the venue for this great spectacular.ISKA fielded two teams thanks to an invite from Martial Arts illustrated.

The kids’ team consisted of five fighters and the men’s team consisted of seven fighters.  The cream of cream were all in attendants, the likes of Curtis Page, Gbma Elite, Dicker Hopkins Wuma, Alfie Lewis ‘Mushin Kai’, the Warriors led by Chris Boughey and Joy Tierney. The kids team consisted of team Top Ten lead by Lee Matthews, ISKA lead by Clifton Findley and Colney Valley lead by no other than the man himself MAI editor Bob Sykes.

One could only describe this packed venue as a night to remember!  The night began with a demonstration from TAGB rising star Lauren Edmunds and what a star she is becoming.

Then it was time for the kids team challenge.  First up was ISKA against team Top Ten.

With Lorraine Hughes and Andy Desa as the coaches, this was a tactical selection on who should come out.  None of the teams wanted to give anything away.  Max Shaw went up first for ISKA and took the fight to his team Top Ten fighter to secure victory.  Young Ryan Gifford made it 2-0 with two wins in the bag.  ISKA needed just one more victory to secure the win.  Out came Conner Porter, this young fighter has it all and took the fight to his opponent with explosive techniques to win the fight and game over for team Top Ten.

In the final ISKA met Colney Valley.  Adam Robert took the first victory for ISKA with blitzing pace.  Then it was Connor Hughes who was hungry and gave a good account of himself to make it two wins.  Ryan Gifford made it 3 wins and Connor Porter put the icing on the cake to make ISKA kids champions of the Clash of the Titans at their very first attempt.  Well done!!

The adults were up next.  This team consisted of Adam Beniston, Jake Slater, Callum Hawthorne, Ryan Davies, Carl Swaby, Ryan Pacey, Barry Upton and Tom Caroll.

First up for ISKA was the warrior.  This was a tough battle.  Jake Slater and Ryan Davies’ battle went well but could not hold the victories so with 2-0 down Carl Swaby came out and won in style for 2-1.  Callum Hawthorne made it 2-2 then out stepped Ryan Pacey who got the crowd going with superb head and body shots to make it 3-2.  Last minute came Tom Carroll who has not competed for 3 years but still trains hard, this guy put a smile on the ISKA teams faces by making it 4-2 to win the show down.

So into the semi-finals, ISKA faced a strong GBMA Elite team.

This time for ISKA came out Adam Beniston who narrowly lost, second up was Callum Hawthorne who gave all but the win went in the opposite direction 2-0 down.  It was up to Ryan Davies who fought brilliantly to make it 2-1 then Carl (the devil) Swaby showing why he is a world class fighter making it 2-2.  Ryan Pacey was injured so Tom Caroll went out, but his opponent was too strong for him.  With 3-2 down we needed this fight to make it a draw.  Barry Upton battled non-stop for 2 minutes but it wasn’t enough to convince the judges who gave the win to GBMA. The score - 4-2 down it was over.  Well done to ISKA on their first major show and securing a 3rd spot with victory over WVMA.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our t-shirt sponsor’s Clash TV and Danny Dollar also Paul Gilmore for the contact pants and last but not least the fighters who put it on the line to perform brilliantly for ISKA UK and a well-deserved 3rd place for the adults and 1st place for the kids.  The coaches, Lorraine Hughes, Paul Gilmore and Andy Desa did a fantastic job.

ISKA cannot wait until next years Clash of the Titans as we will be filling an even stronger team.
