Interview with KRUSH producer Mr Mitsuru Miyata
The following interview with KRUSH producer Mr Mitsuru Miyata was conducted at the official press conference for KRUSH 16 which featured two ISKA World title fights and was staged at Korakeun Hall in Tokyo. Mr Miyata is one of Japan’s leading promoters with a long history of staging successful fight cards in Tokyo.
Q. What was your inspiration to start KRUSH?
It was 2008, fighters from AJKF(All Japan Kickboxing Federation) started to fight in K-1, which made us to think about shifting style to get used to fighting under K-1 rules (AJKF was Muaythai Rules). That was the first idea of start new brand “KRUSH” in Nov 2008.On the other hand, we thought we could show fans good lightweight fights since K-1 did not have lightweight at that time.
Q. Why did you choose K-1 Rules instead of Muaythai rules?
Reason is because we believe fights under K-1 rules are much harder than Muaythai rules. It is of course very hard for fighters but that’s the best rule to let fans understand fighting, and could show fans more exciting fights than Muaythai rule.
Q. what is your favourite weight division right, which weight division has the most exciting Fighters?
KRUSH has four (4) divisions at the moment such as -55kg, -60kg, -63kg, -70kg.To be honest, there is no particular division which I like. But if you look at fight these days, I think that -55kg is the most aggressive fight to see. Even though it’s the lightest division and there are not many fighters in -55kg, but including Krush -55kg champion Shota Takiya, there are many fighters in this division show audience a very aggressive and exciting fight with high percentage of wining by KO.
Q. who do you think will win the ISKA World title fights on Saturday?
K-1 Champions Yuta Kubo, Yoshiro Sato are amongst the the best fighters in Japan. But as you can see the career of Fadi Merza (Austria), the length of arms and legs of Charles Francois (France) will be very dangerous. Either way, whoever wins, I’m really expecting those four fighters to fight dynamic to give audience a big impact. If foreign fighters win with a big impact, then I would love to offer them to fight again.
Q. What do you hope in the future for KRUSH?
KRUSH is neither K-1 nor Kickboxing. There are young fighters debut from many gyms to get experience to be a champion. What I would like to do, is to give those young fighters who put effort, an honour and fame and prize for what they deserve. Unfortunately we have so many kickboxing organizations and events also each of them authorizes their own title. I just want to make a level of fight in KRUSH better and better till people think that a champion of Krush is the best and strongest in Japan.
