ISKA UK AGM

The ISKA UK Board of Directors gathered for their Annual General Meeting on the 13th February 2011 at Jurys Inn in Birmingham. The meeting was chaired by ISKA UK Executive Director Paul Hennessy. Due to the growth of ISKA UK the AGM was held in two sessions, morning for the pro-division and afternoon for the amateur division

The proceedings where opened with the chairman’s report. In the face of the economic downturn, the Football World Cup a long hot summer and a freezing winter ISKA UK still sustained growth for a fourth successive year. ISKA UK sanctioned 97 events during 2010, an increase of 12.6 % that’s more than double the growth for 2009.

The disciplines sanctioned included 31 Kickboxing events, 34 Muaythai events, 25 MMA events and 7 Semi/light-contact tournaments. In addition to the sanctioned events ISKA UK staged 6 Referee and judges courses covering all disciplines, we are constantly trying to improve the level of ISKA officials and widen their experience.

The pro-division meeting covered the re-structuring of ISKA Europe and the positive effect of the changes for ISKA UK. Better use of 21st Century technology expects to see ISKA officials with lap tops at ringside. After the success of the ISKA UK Face book page a Twitter account is planned. ISKA Chief Referee John Blackledge recently met with the Deputy Governor of the Sport Authority of Thailand, Mr. Montri Chaipun in an effort to forge closer links Mr. Blackledge and a team of ISKA UK Officials with travel to Thailand later this year.

The amateur division meeting covered preparation for the English National (17th April Birmingham) Championship, the British Open Championships (10th July Birmingham and the European Champion (25th-29th October, Lido Di Jesselo, Italy). David Hughes was appointed as the new Chief Referee for the amateur division, possible rules changes where propose. It was announced that ISKA UK National Amateur division Director was appointed to the ISKA Europe Technical Committee as Director for Semi-Contact
