ISKA UK Quick Review 2010
In the face of the economic downturn, the Football World Cup a long hot summer and a freezing winter ISKA UK still sustained growth for a fourth successive year. ISKA UK sanctioned 97 events during 2010, an increase of 12.6 % that’s more than double the growth for 2009.
The disciplines sanctioned included 31 Kickboxing events, 34 Muaythai events, 25 MMA events and 7 Semi/light-contact tournaments. In addition to the sanctioned events ISKA UK staged 6 Referee and judges courses covering all disciplines, we are constantly trying to improve the level of ISKA officials and widen their experience.
During 2010 ISKA UK Directors had positive meetings with other UK and International sanctioning bodies, foundations where laid for future co-operation on safety, standardised rules and licensing, in fact it will be difficult to fight with any major sanctioning body in 2011 without a fighter’s license.
ISKA UK also co-sanctioned with other organisations in the hope the working with other credible sanctioning bodies would stem the flow of the Mickey Mouse alphabet soup sanctioning bodies that pollute combat sports.
The ISKA UK Amateur division was successfully re-structured by the capable hands of Clifton Findley who has become a real asset to the association. Clifton supported by his Amateur Directors Paul Gilmore, Owen King, Joe Hallett and Matt Winsper in a short period of time selected prepared and trained a strong ISKA Team England. The medal tally at the World Championships in Alicante was 31 Gold, 25 Silver and 26 Bronze a testament to their hard work.
Lee Hasdell managed real growth in the ISKA UK MMA division with double the amount events in his first year as MMA Director and plans to extend the Amateur MMA division in 2011.
We are getting closer to our goal of over 100 events annually, this could be the year.
