Rowell looks for spectacular KTMMA debut but faces Ultimate Fighter veteran!
One of the highlights of the KTMMA showcase was the debut of rising star Regis ‘The First’ Sugden, who went on to be crowned ‘Fighter of the Night’. Well KTMMA 1 introduces another young star of K1, Reece Rowell. At only twenty four years of age Rowell has been on the kickboxing scene for fifteen years, initially making his name as a kickboxer culminating in his ISKA World title at 75k.
As a rising K-1 star, however, Rowell has won nine of his ten bouts and done so by displaying awesome power in both hands and feet. He may be only twenty-four but has a veteran’s heads on young shoulders and has been superbly schooled by coach Steve Kerridge.
Rowell’s opponent Cody Pfister from Oklahoma in the United States is actually younger at twenty one years of age but is hitting form at just the right time, winning his last six outings on the spin. Like Rowell he has experience beyond his years, having competed in ‘Ultimate Fighter’ 15, so this could be a hard fight to call. Both men carry power with KO’s sprinkled throughout their win column but if they stand and trade I believe the odds favour Rowell, although the fight could be spectacular while it lasts.
Where the interest really kicks in is if the fight breaches the second, MMA round, as Pfister can also finish by submission, an area where Rowell will be an unknown quantity. Will Pfister survive the first? Will he get the opportunity to drag Rowell out of his comfort zone? It is these questions that make this fight so intriguing as two ambitious fighters battle for Country and personal advancement on the International KTMMA stage.
