Alicante host City of the 2010 ISKA Amateur World Championships

Alicante the beautiful Spanish city on the Costa Blanca will host the ISKA Amateur World Championships at the splendid Centro De Tecnificacion Arena. Martial Artists young and old from around the globe will compete in several disciplines on the mats including Semi-Contact, Light-Contact, Kata/Forms and Ring-sports Full Contact/Low Kick Kickboxing and Oriental Rules (Modified Thai). Over 40 countries are expected to attend.

ISKA UK Executive Director Paul Hennessy recently visited Alicante to check on preparations for the Championship scheduled for 2nd-7th November. The welcoming party included ISKA Representative for Spain and host promoter Juan Pinilla, representative for the Alicante Tourist Board Raquel Hernandez, President of Alicante Harbour Entertainment area and Casino Antonio Perez Planelles.

The first stop on the city tour was the venue for the Championships the Centro Tenificacion a 5000 seat arena in the middle of an Olympic standard sports village. The Centro Tenificacion is home for Spanish Olympic Gymnastic and Judo teams. The arena was the venue for the 1993 World Gymnastics Championships and more recently the European Basketball Championship in 2007 and the Open Taekwondo World Championships in April of this year.

The tour move onto the official hotels for the National Teams, there was a good selection of 3 and 4 star hotels within short drive or even walking distance from the venue. Then on to the famous Explanada Promenade and Harbour Entertainment area which will host the Opening Ceremony, National Teams parade and farewell party.

The ISKA Amateur World Championships have the full support of the City Council of Alicante the local government council of Valencia and the government recognised Spanish Kickboxing Federation. Juan Pinilla and his team have the potential to deliver a spectacular World Championships.

ISKA UK Amateur Director Clifton Findley plans to field a Team England with over 100 competitors and is confident the team will do well and win Gold Medals in several categories.

    Changes to ISKA weight divisions

    ISKA have made changes to three weight division, the Super-cruiser-weight division will change from 91.8kg to 94.1kg, the Heavyweight division limit will change form 96.4kg to 101.4kg and Super-heavyweight will change to + 101.5kg. The new weight divisions already established in the USA will come in to effect in Europe on the 5th February 2012 Read more
