Bajrami’s ISKA title defence headlines K-1 MAX Switzerland
Xhavit Bajrami made his fourth successful defence of his ISKA Super-heavyweight title since winning the belt from Australia’s Peter Graham back in 2004. He faced Tokyo based Indian contender Jaideep Singh, the title match headlined a K-1 MAX 70kg Switzerland qualifying tournament in Luzern, Switzerland on the 2nd July.
Jaideep Singh is a rising star in Japan, a K-1 Japan GP Champion, his last victory was an impressive KO of tough Russian fighter Sergey Kharitonov in a single match on the K-1 WGP final last December. He arrived in Luzern very confident and ready to challenge Bajrami.
Jaideep started fast taking the fight to the Champion and connected with a right knocking Bajrami down for an eight count but he cleared his head and survived the first round. Jaideep piled on the pressure in the second round but could not land anything meaningful. Bajrami turned the tide in the third round counter-attacking with middle and low kicks as Jaideep ran out of steam. Bajrami’s experience came into play as he controlled the flagging challenger, Bajrami scored some solid knees to the body and head of Jaideep. The fourth and fifth where must the same with Bajrami skilfully controlling all the action to win a unanimous decision.
Xhajit’s brother Ferid Bajrami faced Omar Salhi from Belgium to contest the vacant ISKA European Super-criuserweight title. The Belgium fighter proved too strong for Farid, after two knockdowns his corner threw the towel in near the end of the third round. A TKO victory to the new Champion Omar Salhi.
K-1 Founder Mr Kazuyoshi Ishii was ringside for the first K-1 MAX 70kg Swiss GP, the eight man tournament was dominated by Muaythai stylist Fillip Hryniewicki who stopped all three opponents with middle kicks.
