Black Widow presents ISKA Thai Title fights
Black Widow Martial Arts Academy launched their fight promotions in great style by hosting Oceana Super Fights at the Oceana Nightclub in Birmingham on Sunday the 1st of November. It proved to be a sell out! The event showcased some of the very best Thai-Boxing gyms in the Midlands and the UK and was run in conjunction with ShowSport International and sanctioned ISKA.
Two ISKA English title bouts headlined a twelve bout card. The first of these two bouts contested the superilightweight 62.5kg title under Oreintal rules. First to enter the ring was former British Champion Ranjeet Dheer fighting out of Eagles gym in Bedford and secondly the home favourite Rajesh Sallan fighting under Team Fearless. This bout opened very explosively as predicted, with both fighters throwing sharp punch and kick combinations. Rajesh was caught by a straight right hand which slightly rocked him in this first round, but recovered very well and continued to level the round out.
The second round was as the first, with neither fighter backing down and both engaging in delivering strong punch and kick combinations. They worked very well in the clinch. By the third and forth rounds Ranjeet asserted himself in the clinch a lot more and proved to be stronger. He used his Thai-Boxing experience well in turning Rajesh and delivering several strong knee strikes. The fifth round potentially was Ranjeet’s best round as he utilised both his punching and kneeing ability to keep the fight at a closer range, preventing Rajesh from delivering roundhouse kicks. After the five round contest was over the bout was awarded to Ranjeet who won on a unanimous points verdict. This was an excellent bout from start to finish and both fighters gave it their all, we look forward to a potential rematch at a lighterweight.
The home favourite and Black Widow’s own Leko Wright contested the ISKA English Light-Welterweight titleTitle at 64.5kg. His opponent was none other than Danny Bright from Kaang Raang gym trained by Barry Thomas. This was a great bout as both fighters made their way to the ring; the crowd was thoroughly behind them. Leko being the home fighter had an enormous fan base and was set to deliver a great fight from the first bell. Leko quickly took the centre of the ring cutting Danny down with several sharp punches and jumping knee strikes to the head, both fighters were evenly matched in size and weight and they went toe to toe during the opening round.
The second was as the first with neither fighter backing down and going blow for blow with Leko being the aggressor, with strong punches and knee strikes. Danny continued to work well in the clinch but also started to connect with several low kicks. Rounds three and four were action packed from start to finish with both fighters landing with clear punches, kicks and knees. Danny continued to work on his opponents legs with heavy low kicks whilst Leko continued to catch Danny with straight punches and jumping knee strikes, which had left Danny’s face in a bloody mess by the end of the forth round.
In the final round both fighters clearly exhausted fought with only one thing in mind, winning the title. As every round prior, they fought blow for blow with Leko working strikes to the head and the body, whilst Danny worked the legs and the body. As the final bell rang to conclude the bout of the evening the crowd cheered on both fighters as they awaited the decision. After the phenomenal five rounds of Thai-Boxing the bout was awarded to Leko Wright who was then crowned the new ISKA English Champion.
In conclusion Oceana Super Fights proved to be a huge success and a sell out event in the midst of so many other shows going on. There wasn’t a bad fight on the card and the crowd were thoroughly entertained. Our next event will be taking place on Sunday the 21st of March again at Oceana Nightclub in Birmingham and will feature the best fighters and gyms in the Midlands and the UK.
