Dixon Defends British title
Former ISKA World Champion Fran Zuccala turn his hand to promoting last year and his first main event a British title fight between the then Champion Blerim Peeyetree and Dale Dixon was voted Kickboxing Fight of the year. Fran promoted his second event on the 7th March 2010 headlined again by Dale Dixon.
Leicester veteran and former ISKA Champion Graham Smith challenged defending Champion Dale Dixon for his British middleweight title under Full contact rules. From the moment both fiughters entered the bell it was apparent that there was almost 2 decades in age between the fighters, some people joking about how Graham could have been Dale’s father! Despite his age , Graham turned up in perfect shape with his physique looking well toned and during the contest never suffered in the stamina department either.
From the bell Dale opened up with strong combinations while Grahaim was content in the early rounds to suffice with single powerful roundhouse kicks to the body and occasionally unloaded on the ropes with a short burst of powerful hooks to the head and body. Graham shrugged and dropped his hands anytime Dale landed a blow to goad his opponent into thinking the blows had no effect.
The fight was full of ups and downs as Dale would appear to have the upper hand then Graham would pin Dale on the ropes with a barrage of punches. Both fighters showed their strengths throughout the fight with Dale also landing some very effective inside leg sweeps to unbalance the taller Graham Smith on more than one occasion. However it was Dale’s workrate that earned him the nod in the majority of the rounds and after 9 hard fought rounds there was no doubt that Dale was worthy of the ISKA British middleweight title.
On the undercard, Steve Freeman also from Eclipse gym won the vacant midland area title against Jon Paul Lawrence from Coventry Freestyle. Of the two, Jon Paul was probably the stronger kicker but it was apparent that Jon Paul was more used to fighting thaiboxing rules as he kept having the tendency to want to clinch every time Steve came in close. The fight was very close but Steve Freeman was more comfortable under this rule set and scored cleaner with the hands.
