ISKA UK Amateur Referee Course

On Sunday 22nd January 2012 saw the first ISKA Amateur Referee Course at the Stockland Green Leisure Centre in Birmingham. ISKA Amateur Chief Referee, Mr Dave Hughes, 6th Dan, presented the course along Senior Referee Mr Jason Morrison 5th Dan, a qualified International A class Referee.

Eighteen candidates were put through their paces for 3 hours by the Chief Referee and his assistant.  Each candidate received an ISKA rule book.  Several knew the rules and several saw it for the first time, however, they had plenty of time to study and prepare themselves for the written examination which was ahead of them.

Mr Hughes took them all through the rules of semi contact and light contact.  This included the legal and illegal techniques, equipment and preparation for clothing before a contest, was all part of his speech.

He also informed them with regard to medical requirements which are an important factor within the sport.  Finally, Mr Hughes talked about the referees warning system.

The candidates were then taken to a matted area where they were put to the test and to prove they could contest a match.  From checking the fighters equipment to exit warnings.

At the end of the session, Mr Hughes revealed to all the candidates who had passed and yes all 18 had successfully passed with flying colours!!

It was a successful day and each newly qualified referee received an ISKA blue shirt, tie and certificate for their hard work and dedication.

Mr Hughes and Mr Morrison would like to take this opportunity to thank all the new ISKA Referees for a great day and hope to see them all at their first post which is the ISKA National Championships on the 1st April 2012 in Birmingham.
