Tim Thomas stepped up to face Abraham Roqueni in a late notice World Title match
ISKA European Kickboxing Champion and one of the stars Spanish Kickboxing Abraham Roqueni was scheduled to meet ISKA European Oriental Rules Champion Odje Manda of France on the 10th April to contest the vacant ISKA World Super-welterweight Kickboxing title under Freestyle rules (low kick)
but unfortunately Manda was injured in a car crash. The first replacement was former Super League star Fadi Merza he later changed his mind and withdrew from the fight.
England’s Tim Thomas had agreed terms to challenge Cambodia’s Meas Chanta for his ISKA World Welterweight Muaythai title on the 11th April in Phnom Penh, but the fight was cancelled when the promoter could not secure the necessary sponsorship. When the call came from Spain Thomas stepped up, he was in shape, he had to move up a weight division and there was a rule change but he was confident he was ready for the challenge, even with less than a week of notice.
More than 1500 spectators turned out for the World Championship match in Cantabria, Spain. The opening rounds saw the usual feeling out process as both men cautiously tested each other’s defence. Going into the sixth round the scorecards were even, Roqueni connected cleanly with a solid head kick that stunned Thomas Referee Juan Pinilla gave an eight count and restarted the action. Roqueni immediately landed another accurate powerful head kick dropping Thomas who had no chance of beating the count. Thomas was magnanimous in defeat saying I made a mistake and he capitalised on it, he will be a good Champion.
